Bhagavad-Gita
"The Gita is not merely a book or just a scripture. It is a living voice carrying an eternally indispensable and vital message to mankind. Its verses embody words of wisdom coming from the infinite ocean of knowledge, the Absolute Itself."
"The Gita is a source of power and wisdom. It strengthens you when you are weak, and inspires you when you feel dejected and feeble. It teaches you to embrace righteousness and to resist unrighteousness." - Swami Sivananda
"From a clear knowledge of the Bhagavad-Gita all the goals of human existence become fulfilled. Bhagavad-Gita is the manifest quintessence of all the teachings of the Vedic scriptures." - Adi Sankara
"All that can be learned by going through the whole of the Gita can be as well accomplished by repeating “Gita”, “Gita” – Gita-gi-ta-gita, ten times; it virtually comes to be “Ta-gi” “Ta-gi” – a modification of “Tyagi”, “Tyagi”, which means one who has given up the world both outwardly and from the mind."- Sri Ramkrishna Parmhansadev
"When I read the Bhagavad Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous"- Albert Einstein
"The Bhagavad-Gita is where God Himself talks to His devotee Arjuna." - Paramahansa Yogananda

pranayama
"Breath is the key to ultimate emancipation." The Upanishads, the Hindu sacred scriptures, likewise equate prana, in the form of breath, with the universal soul. When it is done properly and when a yoga practitioner is ready, pranayama, the yogic practice of regulating and channeling one's breath, can provide a bridge between the individual self and the universal soul.
It takes regular practice to develop the ability to feel something as subtle as when the universal soul and the individual self begin to separate in the course of a breath—and that recognition is what pranayama is all about. By practicing pranayama and regulating the flow of prana with measured observation and distribution of the breath, the mind becomes still. When this happens, we can allow the energy we normally use to process the world to instead bend inward.

Stressed Out? Try Flower Remedies
Stress can negatively impact your physical health, mood, and social interactions. One way to help address the symptoms of stress is with passion flower (Passiflora incarnata). The dried above-ground parts of the plant can be found in tincture and extract form - look for standardized whole plant extracts or capsules containing no less than 0.8 percent flavonoids or isovitexin. You can use passion flower for stress reduction, calming without sedation, and relief from insomnia (when combined with other sedative herbs). One dropperful of the tincture in a little warm water, or two capsules of extract, up to four times a day as needed is the adult dosage; children should take half of this. Use precaution when taking MAO-inhibiting antidepressant drugs, and do not take when pregnant - active compounds may be uterine stimulants.

stress playing havoc on sexual relationship
ANI
London: Researchers have found in a study that stress of modern life is playing havoc on sexual relationships.
Stress caused by work difficulties, financial worries and tiredness are said to affect people. Their subsequent lack of desire in the bedroom is putting their relationships in danger.
The pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk UK in collaboration with Relate carried out a survey of 2,037 over-16s. In the survey, 50 per cent people reported stress or medical issues had affected their sex lives with loss of libido or discomfort the biggest problems. However, three in five admitted to struggling when it came to discussing their personal problems.
Denise Knowles, a relationship counsellor with Relate, said, "This research really emphasises the extent to which sexual problems, including stress, take on a bigger significance within the relationship.
"I have worked with many couples who are so embarrassed about intimate health complaints that it has caused a huge breakdown in communication and put serious pressure on the relationship. Talking to a partner or a professional candidly about the issue is not easy, but it may save a great deal of emotional strain," Knowles added.
Dr Annie Evans, a women's health specialist at Nuffield Hospital in Bristol, said, "Sometimes it's easier to ignore sexually-related health problems than to address them. However, it's important to seek advice and help, as many treatments are available”. “By ignoring physical symptoms, both men and women leave themselves at risk of the problems becoming more serious and less easy to put right," Dr. Annie added.

Yoga
The Carnegie Principle and Raja Yoga
“Win friends and influence people”: this Dale Carnegie principle is but a leaf out of the ancient Indian volume on psycho-spiritual science. Practise Yoga; the entire world will worship you. You will unconsciously attract to yourself every living being; even gods will be at your beck and call. Even among wild beasts and blonde brutes you will “win friends”. Serve all; love all. Unfold your inner powers, through the practice of Raja Yoga.

Sanctuary
Six Ways to Create a Sanctuary
Your home - whether big, small - should be your sanctuary, a place where stress is left at the door and your soul is nurtured. For a more comforting environment, gradually implement the following changes into your home:
- Bring the outdoors in. Green plants, cut flowers and blooming bulbs, or pieces of wood, rocks and other natural elements can create a feeling of nature indoors.
2. Paint a room to correlate with how you want to feel while in there. For instance, blue and green promote a relaxed feeling and may be good choices for the bedroom.
3. Surround your senses with beauty. Artwork, fragrance, smooth textures and calming sounds all provide a pleasant environment in which to relax.
4. Set aside a room or area for peace and calm. A place for spiritual reflection and meditation can provide shelter from noise and distraction.
5. Clean out clutter. A low-maintenance home is refreshing after a day of hectic meetings, errands and chores. Fewer items can mean less frustration.
6. Create an atmosphere of love. Display handmade or meaningful gifts from loved ones and photos of family and friends.

Pranayama
Mastery over Nature's Powers through Pranayama
The human body is the copy of the cosmic structure in miniature and Prana enlivens and animates the organism. Each element has gone into its constitution. The key force behind all forces of nature is Prana. Prana is the manifest essence of all the forces that exist. The cerebrospinal system forms man's subtle switchboard. The different subtle psychic centres dominate particular elements of forces in nature. By gaining mastery over the vital astral centres located therein, man obtains control over every force of nature.

Rising rupee made many Indians billionaires
Rising rupee made many Indians billionaires 26 Nov, 2007, 0332 hrs IST, PTI |
NEW DELHI: Rupee's sharp rally may have cost millions of people their jobs in export-oriented sectors, but the country's billionaires - who owe over one-tenth of their wealth to the currency appreciation - are not complaining.
There are 54 Indian billionaires in the world with a combined net worth of about $368 billion, according to the US business magazine Forbes . However, five of them - including retail tycoon Kishore Biyani - owe their entry to this club to a rise of more than 14% in the rupee value over a year.
Besides, the 54 billionaires put together would have been poorer by close to $40 billion had the rupee remained around its year-ago level. Mukesh Ambani, ranked as the second richest Indian with a net worth of $49 billion, would have been the biggest loser with a loss of over $6 billion if rupee had not appreciated.
Forbes calculated the net worth of all the billionaires based on the foreign exchange rate on November 2, 2007, when a dollar was valued at Rs 39.32. A year ago, the dollar value stood at Rs 44.90 on November 2, 2006.
After Mukesh, his younger brother Anil is the biggest gainer from the rupee rally ($5.6 billion), followed by realtor KP Singh ($4.3 billion).
While a surge of over 55% in stock market in a year is the biggest contributor to their wealth, rupee rally is also a major contributor for at least 52 billionaires.
Lakshmi Mittal, ranked at the top by Forbes with a net worth of $51 billion, and Anurag Dikshit, who holds 35th position with $1.75 billion, are only two billionaires without any direct exposure to the rupee factor. |

Over six lakh millionaires in ten Indian cities alone 23 Nov, 2007, 2050 hrs IST, PTI |
NEW DELHI: Over six lakh millionaires are concentrated in just ten cities of the country, with the national capital accounting for maximum number of them, a survey says.
Delhi has emerged as the top city in terms of number of millionaires in the country, housing over 1.38 lakh of them, followed by Bangalore with over 1.04 lakh.
The country's financial hub, Mumbai, has over one lakh households earning more than 10 lakh per year, data compiled by Indicus Analytics' Housing Skyline of India 2007-08 shows.
However, Chandigarh has the maximum density of such households with annual incomes of over Rs 10 lakh a year followed by Silvassa, the capital of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Rupnagar in Punjab.
Interestingly, based on the percentage of households with incomes greater than Rs 10 lakh a year, cities like Kohima, Goa, Patiala and Jamshedpur also rank among the top ten cities.
Thane, Pune, Surat, Ahemdabad and Jaipur also figure among the top ten cities in terms of number of millionaire families.
Besides, according to Indicus's 'reside-in' index, eight out of ten top cities are from South India, with Kochi emerging as the most livable place.
The index ranks cities on the basis several indicators, including health, education, environment and safety among others. They indicate how good the city is in terms of living conditions.
The ten most livable cities in the country include Kozhikode, Shimla, Thiruvanthapuram, Mysore, Goa, Thrissur and Pondicherry. |
